Are We Obligated To Go Along?
I often wonder, when watching the insanity that is American politics, whether I am truly obligated to go along. Every day I watch irresponsible and wasteful use of my money. Money that, had I been left to spend myself, would've been put to much more worthwhile use. In fact, in nearly every case, had I been allowed to keep that money, my choices to spend freely would've resulted in greater benefit for my community than government is able to achieve.
Doesn't it irk you when the government dictates you must tolerate the misbehavior of others? Isn't it wrong that, despite your ardent belief that abortion is murder, you are required, as a taxpayer of the United States, to support it?
Why?
What responsibility does government have to obligate us to support anything? Where in the Constitution does it say it's the responsibility of the federal government to financially support any activity?
I'm not even arguing those activities should be illegal. I'm merely asking why money has to be taken from me and sent to a so-called doctor to suck a baby into a sink. ...or to a failing auto company. ...or to a failing bank. ...or to a failing state government.
I don't agree with supporting any of these things. So why must I support them?
Is it my duty as a citizen to financially support things I believe are the antithesis of a mature, Free society? I don't believe so. Rather, I believe it's the duty of government to protect me from such thievery.
So what do we do when government that was constructed to protect us becomes the very thing we must be protected from? Must we resist and agitate as to risk our lives and property? Must we risk jail for not going along?
I believe we do.
As difficult as that sounds, it's true. After all, what good are your life and property if they are the controlled and dispensed at the pleasure of government?

I have visited your site many times, and I respect what you are trying to say, which is basically what your thoughts are vis-a-vis U.S. politics.
To address your article succinctly, the answer is no, no one is obligated to do anything in this country that they do not want to do. Yet, just because others do them does not mean that you necessarily are obliged, as you put it, to go along.
The tax code is completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to adhere to it. The fiat currency you have in your pocket is not the only way in which to pay for goods and services. You can barter or exchange items in return for the things you want.
But the bottom line is that just by retreating from interacting with others does not in itself prove anything. It would be preferable in fact to participate in the system while simultaneously holding firm to ones beliefs so that when the whole damn thing begins to fall apart (which it is now), then there will be plenty of experienced, wise folks to come in and straighten things out.
Democrats have always been Democrats. They always hop into bed with unions and dictators, while at the same time preaching socialism. It's all a ruse, which is why Democrats have attracted the likes of former Ku Klux Klan members (Robert Byrd) and segregationists (George Wallace).
Yet Republicans got stuck with the image of being intolerant or even racist. How did that happen? Easy. Because the mainstream media makes it so.
People have clearly lost their way, but we all have to remain steadfast in our beliefs of what America really is and not let others tell us what to think. It is a very tall order in this day and age when the media is looked upon as the gospel truth forsaking all texts and wisdom ever chronicled. It's all up to whomever is left hanging around who don't get seen in the media to stay put and see this thing through even though we know damn well it's a pile of manure.
Keep up the good work!
