Islam. A Religion? Or Government?

If Islam is a religion, not a government, why does the Iraq constitution open with:

First: Islam is the official religion of the State and it is a fundamental source of legislation:

A. No law that contradicts the established provisions of Islam may be established.

B. No law that contradicts the principles of democracy may be established.

So the "established provisions of Islam" are the basis of governance in Iraq. Interesting, then, that CAIR assails Representative Virgil Goode as a bigot in Congress for his lack of religious tolerance.

Mr. Goode was evidently napping in class the day they taught the traditional American values of tolerance, diversity and religious freedom.

Religious freedom? Okay. And what of a religion that calls for the slaughter of unbelievers? The Koran states:

And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter ... such is the recompense of the unbelievers. ... And fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah.

This out of the book that Ellison is swearing an oath to the Constitution on. So much for religious tolerance.

Islam is both a government and a religion.

Without making Sharia the law of the land, Muhammad's religion probably would have died with him. It's his 'legacy' to the world (ack)
