U.S. To Hand Control Of Iraq To Iran?

AP has a press release regarding Iran's recent move to deepen political ties with Iraq:

Iran has invited the Iraqi and Syrian presidents to Tehran for a weekend summit with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to hash out ways to cooperate in curbing the runaway violence that has taken Iraq to the verge of civil war and threatens to spread through the region, four key lawmakers told The Associated Press on Monday.

This is analagous to the U.S. allowing Communist China to establish political ties with South Korea just after we secured it from them.

With Tony Blair's recent statements that "the door was open to Iran if it wanted to be part of a constructive solution in the Middle East," it seems the old failed policy of Chamberlainesque appeasement is alive and well in both the U.S. and the U.K.

If we allow Iran and Syria to gain a political foothold in Iraq, all of our sacrifices will have been for nought. Our men will have died in vain. Our children will look upon us with great astonishment that we wrested control of a nation from a terrible regime, then gave it to another.

Fools make feasts and wise men eat them.
