Never Betray A Clandestine Spy Organization
...at least not without deep pockets, a full bench of spies and a death wish.
Former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko has died by poisoning. AP has the story.
Before his slow, painful death, Litvinenko dictated a statement to his wife:
Goldfarb said Litvinenko had dictated the statement before he lost consciousness on Tuesday, and signed it in the presence of his wife, Marina.
...
Putin's government strongly denied involvement.
"A death of a man is always a tragedy and I deplore this," Putin said after being asked about Litvinenko during a news conference after summit talks with European Union leaders.
Putin said the fact that Litvinenko's statement was released only after his death showed it was a "provocation."
"It's extremely regrettable that such a tragic event as death is being used for political provocations," he said.
Reading such a statement from Putin makes me wonder how these quotes come to my desk. Was something lost in translation? How could Putin make such an apalling statement? Perhaps Mr. Putin wasn't notified the death was caused by poisoning. Let's correct his statement...
It's extremely regrettable that such a tragic event as death poisoning/murder/assasination is being used for political provocations.
I agree, Mr. Putin. Your callousness on the issue is reprehensible, if not suspect.
